What Heriteo is
Heriteo is a shared catalogue of what a family owns, and a place to write down what is known about each thing while someone still knows it. Most of that knowledge — whose it was, what it cost, why it was never sold — sits in two or three people's memory and leaves with them. Heriteo keeps the object and its story together, where every heir sees the same record at the same time.
What it holds
- The catalogue: Photograph an object and Heriteo drafts its description, tags, condition and an estimate of its value. Every suggestion is a starting point you can correct or dismiss.
- The stories: Whose it was, where it came from, what it meant — written by whoever remembers, not only by the person doing the organizing.
- Each heir's wishes: Every heir can say what they hope happens to an object — keep, sell, donate, no opinion — and how settled that feeling is, before the conversation becomes difficult.
- Private by default: A workspace is visible only to the family members invited into it. We never share or sell anything in it.
How a family uses it
- Start on your own: One photograph at a time, in whatever order the house allows. Nothing has to be complete before it is useful.
- Invite the family when you're ready: Each person adds what only they remember — a story, what an object meant, who was promised what.
- Let everyone say what they hope for: Wishes are recorded openly, so nobody has to guess what anyone else wants and nobody has to be the one who raises it.
- Decide, and keep the record: Objects valued, heirs heard, each decision dated and kept — so a year later the record still says who decided what, and why.
Where to begin
The free plan holds 49 objects and five people with logins — enough to catalogue what matters most in a parent's home and see whether Heriteo suits your family. No card, no time limit. Any album exports as a PDF book, and every photograph stays available at the size you uploaded it.
Heriteo does not replace a will, a notary or a lawyer — it records what a legal document has no room for, and makes the conversation with a professional far more concrete. It was built for one family before it was a product, and they are still using it; the founder's page tells that story.
