How Heriteo works

Four phases, one shared family memory

Heriteo is the only place that combines an objective catalogue of your assets with the subjective memory only your family can give them. Each phase builds on the last.

  1. The catalogue

    Admin heir

Photograph, tag, assess condition, and value every object — the objective record of what exists.

  2. The memory

    All heirs

Family members add stories, emotional values, and the context that turns a thing into a treasure.

  3. Heir clarity

    All heirs

Each heir declares their wishes openly — Keep, Sell, Donate, No opinion — before a difficult conversation is needed.

  4. Transition ready

    Admin heir

Objects valued, heirs aligned, decisions recorded — the inheritance is ready to hand over with no surprises.

Why Heriteo

The objects outlive the answers

A painted cabinet survives four generations. What anyone knew about it — whose it was, what it cost, why it was never sold — usually lives in one person's memory, and it leaves when they do. Heirs inherit the object and none of what it meant.

Heriteo is where that knowledge gets written down while someone still knows it, and where every heir sees the same record at the same time. It doesn't make the decisions. It makes sure nobody makes them in the dark.

Who's behind Heriteo

Built for one family before it was a product

Heriteo began with a house in France that had to be emptied, and seven heirs who had no shared record of what was in it. I built it for them, used it on my own family, and rebuilt it around what both taught me. They are still using it — the objects in the screenshots on this page are theirs.

What is Heriteo and who is it for?

Heriteo is a digital heritage management platform designed for families who want to catalog, document, and distribute their estate assets with clarity. Whether you are planning ahead or helping aging parents organize a lifetime of possessions, Heriteo gives every item a place and every story a home.

What types of assets can I catalog?

Virtually anything of personal or financial value — furniture, jewelry, artwork, vehicles, real estate, watches, books, family heirlooms, and more. Each item can hold photos, a description, origin details, estimated value, and the memories attached to it.

Can I assign items to specific heirs?

Yes. Once you have cataloged your assets you can designate intended recipients for each one. This creates a transparent record of your wishes that reduces ambiguity and helps your family honor your decisions without conflict.

Is my data private and secure?

Absolutely. Your catalog is private by default and only visible to you. Access is protected by JWT-based authentication, XSRF protection, and encrypted connections. We never share or sell your personal data.

Can I change my mind and update assignments later?

Yes, at any time. Heriteo is designed for life as it evolves — you can add new assets, update descriptions, reassign items to different heirs, or remove entries whenever circumstances change. Nothing is locked in.

How is Heriteo different from a will or estate-planning lawyer?

A will codifies legal transfers; Heriteo captures the human layer that a will cannot — every story, condition, photograph, and the wishes each heir has expressed. The two work together: bring your Heriteo catalogue to your lawyer and your estate plan becomes far more concrete.

Do all family members need an account?

No. The admin heir invites the rest of the family by email. Each heir can choose how much to contribute — stories, emotional values, intentions — and an heir's space is private to them until they decide to share.

What happens to my data if I stop paying or leave Heriteo?

Your data is always yours. You can export your full catalogue (objects, photos, stories, intentions) at any time. If you cancel, we keep your data accessible during a clearly defined grace period and then delete it on request — no hostage-taking.
